The purpose of the Forum is to present diverse and stimulating academic sessions & experiences across a wide range of sciences & technologies. This is augmented by visits to science & technology enterprises in the Auckland region as well as a range of fun activities.
Isabella Yallop, Alana Rodrigues-Birch and Felix Shaw-Bell were part of the 200 students who were accommodated at O’Rourke hall and attended about 12 modules distributed between Auckland University, Massey University and AUT where there were many options including:
- build robots
- dissect hearts and analyse heart functions
- Distil ethanol from wine
- visit industries to ensure there was more than just academia, but also insights into the “real” world.
- social interaction amongst peers with common interests.
- compulsory early morning exercise
- Team Volleyball competition
The Forum provided exposure to potential career paths and opened up ideas of alternative futures. and all three students expressed their thanks to Rotary for the opportunities given and the experiences they had. Nick Kingston, Head of Science at Takapuna Grammar School acknowledged how the school appreciated their students’ participation in the Forum.
