Adam Benli and Andrew Walters from Global Action Plan Oceania and also the “godfathers” of Devonport recycling, Mike Pritchard and Richard Tong. Adam and Andrew have gained the contract to run the Devonport Transfer Station. Both have a strong background in sustainablity.
Global Action Plan Oceania is a trust set up to promote sustainability, community, education and waste minimization. Their goals in running the Transfer Station include waste recovery, job creation, tip diversion, upcycling and putting funds back into the local community.
Their presentation prompted much discussion and many questions. The key message was we need to find ways of not producing waste – this reduces the amount you have to dispose of! Pretty simple, eh.
