MONDAY 5th OCTOBER 2015 – ‘CURE KIDS’ PRESENTATION by Mark Laurence

Mark Laurence, fund-raising co-ordinator for Cure kids first introduced himself as a past RYLA participant and thanked Rotary for the opportunity given to develop his leadership skills. Cure Kids was borne out of Rotary back in 1971 and was known then as Child Health Research Foundation but was rebranded as Cure Kids in 2001. The Charity’s objective is to fund research and find cures for many child illnesses such as cot deaths, genetic malformations, child cancers, congenital heart disease and respiratory illnesses just to name a few.
Since 1971 over $37 million has been raised and currently $1/2 million is given each year as grants to a number of scientists carrying out research to find cures. Cure Kids, to rekindle closer links to Rotary gave $200,000 in 2009 to the Rotary End Polio campaign.
Mark thanked Devonport Rotary for their generous support to Cure Kids through the Fine Homes Tour to be held on friday 16th October and encouraged members to buy tickets to help raise funds for the cause.
