Maxine and David are members and Trustees of the St Matthews Orchestra in Auckland City. They came armed with Cello and Violin and played some lovely music, with four Rotarians in accompaniment as cuckoos, nightingales, drummers etc. All good fun and a very pleasant evening was had by all. Both Maxine and David have been taking music into the schools and involving school children in the Orchestra. One such production was Peter and the Wolf. The idea is that the kids interact with the orchestra and the orchestra actually comes to the kids, rather than kids being buses into the City to just watch and not really interact. Maxine also spoke about the power of music and its effect on people, giving an example of music that was played at a Nazi Concentration Camp by a Jewish musician during the Second World War.
